What area reinforcement means on this page
Screens set-on branch reinforcement per a simplified ASME B31.3 section 304.3.3 layout; default β=90° with optional 15°–90° oblique branches; set-in is simplified screening only (not a full set-in model); multiple openings are independent screening only.
Model assumptions
- Branch reinforcement follows a simplified ASME B31.3 section 304.3.3 inspired layout: required area uses (d₁/sin β)×tᵣ when β is the angle between branch and run axes (default β = 90°); tᵣ is from ASME B31.3 thin-wall straight pipe, not GB/T 20801.1 appendix B auto-fill. A₁ and A₂ limits use the same effective width. β is clamped to 15°–90°. Set-in branches and multi-opening interaction rules are not modeled.
- Allowable stress and joint efficiency are entered manually; temperature coefficient Y is interpolated from GB/T 20801.1 Table 27 at design temperature (ferritic class, same as the pipe wall calculator GB mode).

Frequently asked questions
- Will branch reinforcement match my spreadsheet exactly?
- Not guaranteed—geometry limits and area partitions are simplified. Cross-check critical joints with detailed software or handbook procedures.
- Are calculations sent to a server?
- No. Math runs entirely in your browser.
- Why does t_r differ from my GB pipe wall result?
- This page always derives t_r with the ASME B31.3 thin-wall form (S×E in the denominator). GB mode results from the pipe wall calculator use [σ]ᵗ×φ and table Y/W—copy matching S, E, and Y here, or enter t_r from your checked workbook.
