Code scope and what this thickness estimate means
This calculator targets blind plates between flanges (gasket diameter d_G, Eq. 6.7.2-1/2; design thickness t_pd = t_m + 2C₂ + C₁). For vessel flat covers see /tools/flat-cover (§6.6.1, not §6.7.2).
Model assumptions
- Elastic design assumptions with tabulated allowable stresses and joint efficiencies as you enter them.
- Geometry is idealized (circular plate, gasket diameter d_G); local stress concentrations at openings are not detailed.
- Temperature derates must be supplied via allowable stress inputs appropriate to your material and code case.
- No gasket seating force, bolt load sequence, or leakage performance is modeled here.

Frequently asked questions
- Can I use the output on a data sheet as final thickness?
- Only after your qualified engineer aligns inputs with the governing code edition, inspections, and NDE plan.
- Why is this different from the flat-cover calculator?
- §6.7.2 covers blind plates clamped between two flanges (0.433×d_G×√(…)); flat covers use §6.6.1 / GB/T 150.3 Eq. (7-40) / UG-34 on the flat-cover tool.
- Is data uploaded?
- No. The model executes locally in the browser.
Extended copy on this page (headings, assumptions, references, FAQs) may be drafted or localized with AI assistance; engineering judgment and governing codes still apply. Numerical models run locally in your browser as implemented. For contract-critical work, cite primary standards and qualified review.
